Master’s degree

 Master’s degree education program is equivalent to Level 7 in Vietnam’s National Qualification Framework.

 1.      Objectives

Master education shall help students master the theory, acquire advanced practical skills with the ability to work independently and creatively, as well as to identify and solve problems in the field of study. (Clause 4, Article 39, Education Law No. 38/2005/QH11 14th June 2005)

 2.      Entrance Requirements

Master's degree training programs must be attended by university-level training program graduates. (Section c, Clause 4, Article 2, Decision No. 1981/QD-TTg dated on 18th October 2016 on Approving the structural framework of the national education system)

3.      Training Period

The duration of study required by the master’s degree education program is equivalent to 1 - 2 years of fulltime study, depending on requirements of each area of study. (Section c, Clause 4, Article 2, Decision No. 1981/QD-TTg dated on 18th October 2016 on Approving the structural framework of the national education system)

 4.      Academic Load

Level 7 requires the minimum academic load of 60 credits. (Section g, Clause 5, Article 1, Decision No. 1982/QD-TTg 18th dated on October 2016 on Approval for Vietnamese qualifications framework)

5.      Training Process

Master’s degree education is divided into two branches, including pure research and applied research.

Pure research-oriented training programs are designed with targets and contents oriented towards specialization in basic principles or theories in scientific fields that help to develop source technologies forming a foundation for development of applied scientific and technological fields.

Applied research-oriented training programs are designed with targets and contents oriented towards development of basic research results, application of source technologies with a view to making them become technological solutions, administration processes and design of full tools that meet various human demands.

Training programs must provide a minimum amount of knowledge, set out capability requirements that students can obtain after graduation in accordance with regulations imposed by the Ministry of Education and Training. (Section a, Clause 5, Article 1, Decision No. 1982/QD-TTg dated on 18th October 2016 on Approval for Vietnamese qualifications framework)

 7.      Outcome Standards

Level 7 certifies education level of learners who have:

-          Comprehensive, practical and theoretical knowledge to master the knowledge in the field of study;

-          Skills in argument, analysis and consolidation of data and information scientifically and creatively;

-          Skills in research to develop, innovate and use suitable technologies in the field of study or work;

-          Skills to disseminate knowledge in profession, have ability to make self-orientation and adapt to the changeable professional contexts;

-          Ability to guide other people to carry out the tasks and have capacity of management, evaluation and innovation to increase the efficiency of work.

8.      Degrees

Learners who complete the training program and satisfy the outcome standards of Level 7 shall be issued with the Master’s degree. People who obtained Bachelor's degrees of training program with minimum academic load of 150 credits and satisfy the outcome standards of Level 7 shall be recognized completing education program of Level 7.

Master’s degree training program graduates may opt to move up to the doctorate degree education level at which they are provided training for their majors at the master’s degree education level, or they are admitted into training programs with majors different from their previous majors if meeting requirements set out in this training program. (Section g, Clause 5, Article 1, Decision No. 1982/QD-TTg dated on 18th October 2016 on approval for Vietnamese qualifications framework)
